Inspiration: Little Boy with a Slingshot
Once upon a time Ash and her close friend Mo visited Ash’s grandparents at their house near Jo’s Farm. Outside Ash’s Grandma and Grandpa’s house was an old antique mirror. Something that was valuable to Grandma as it was her mothers mirror. Mo wanted to play outside with Ash’s slingshot that she had laying around in the house. Mo set up targets and practiced in the woods but he could never hit the target. Getting a little discouraged, he headed back for lunch. As he was walking back he saw Grandma’s mirror.
Just out of impulse, he let the slingshot fly which hit the mirror square in the center and shattered it. He was shocked and grieved. In a panic, he hid what was left of the mirror in the creek nearby. Ash had seen it all from the window but she said nothing. After lunch, the next day Grandma said, “Ash, let’s wash the dishes.” Ash said, “But Grandma, Mo told me he wanted to help in the kitchen.”
Instantly she whispered to Mo, “Remember the mirror?” Mo got nervous knowing his best friend knew about the mirror and if he doesn’t obey, she may tell Grandma and Grandpa about it. So without saying anything, he did the dishes.
Later that day, Grandpa asked if the children wanted to go fishing but Grandma said, “I’m sorry but I need Ash to help make supper.” Ash just smiled and said, “Well that’s alright because Mo told me he wanted to help.”
She whispered again to Mo, “Remember the mirror?” So Ash went fishing and Mo stayed to help. After several days of Ash taking advantage of Mo, he finally couldn’t stand it any longer. He came to Grandma and confessed that he had broken her beloved mirror.
Grandma knelt down, gave him a hug and said, “Sweetheart, I know. I was standing at the window and I saw the whole thing but because you are a great friend to Ash, I forgave you. I was just wondering how long you would let Ash take advantage of you.”
