Inspiration: The Farmer & the Horse (Taoist story over 2000 years old)
On a beautiful sunny day Grandma’s cat ran away. The cat was very useful for catching mice. Bee hears this bad news and runs over to Grandma’s house as fast as she can to try and cheer her up. “Hi Grandma, I heard that you lost your cat. That is bad news and bad luck.”
“Well, who knows?” said Grandma as she poured some fresh tea, “Maybe it is and maybe it isn’t. Would you like some herbal tea and a freshly baked cookie”? Bee quickly said “yes please!”, of course.
Well, the next day the Grandma’s cat returns to the house, but it has brought along 3 kittens it had befriended.
Bee couldn’t’ believe the great news about the cats. Grandma will never have a mouse problem again! She did a video chat with Grandma right away to congratulate her. Bee laughed when Grandma showed her the kittens making themselves at home on the couch.
“This is such good news,” Bee says. “Well, who knows,” said Grandma, “Maybe it is and maybe it isn’t.”
The next day Grandpa decided to play with and pet the new cats. As luck would have it, he immediately had an allergic reaction and got a big rash on his arm.
Of course, upon hearing this sad news, Bee came over to offer condolences. “This is such sad thing,” Bee said. “Grandpa has a rash. He cannot use his iPad or even read a book because of the pain. This is horrible news!” “Well, who knows,” said Grandma. “Maybe it is and maybe it isn’t.”
On the following day Grandpa was out walking because he still couldn’t use his hands. He saw Alex riding his bike down the street. Alex seemed distracted by the helmet strap pinching Alex’s cheek. Grandpa noticed a car zooming down the street and that Alex did not seem to notice the car because the bike was swerving into the path of the car! Grandpa quickly yelled “Alex STOP! CAR!” and then there was a loud screeeech as the driver slammed on the breaks. Grandpa saved Alex from being hit by the car. And well, maybe it was good news and maybe it wasn’t.
