Inspiration: The Fox and the Grapes
Readers Comment: Don’t give up so easily. Have faith in yourself and you will achieve things that others cannot.
The grass was glistening and the sun was scorching hot. It was a beautiful day for Bee to practice some baseball. She went to the school baseball diamond and started practicing her hits with Alex as her pitcher.
She wanted to get really good at hitting because her main goal was to get at least one home run that could help win her games. She noticed that her team usually struggled because they did not have any strong hitters. She was determined to not only improve herself but to also help out the team.
That day, she swung many times but was not successful at it. Alex got tired of pitching and wanted to go home and bring this back another day. Bee was tired and sad that her hitting was not up to her standards. She said, “Alex, I don’t think we need to come back another day.”
“Why not?” said Alex.
“I’m not going to get any better. I might as well give up now.” Bee said aggressively.
The next day, Bee was walking by Jo’s Farm, and she saw a very hungry dog looking right above Jo’s wall. Bee then noticed why the dog was looking above the wall. It’s because the dog saw the biggest, juiciest grapes it had ever seen. They had a rich, purple colour, tempting the dog that they must be eaten. In order to reach the grapes, the dog had to jump and try to chomp on the grapes mid air. Bee saw that the dog was getting a little higher with each jump. The dog was improving and would probably have made it the next jump. She saw how close the dog got to the grapes, but didn’t understand why it gave up.
She texted Alex and said, “you know what, let’s go back to the baseball diamond and get back to work.”
They then went back and Bee hit over and over again until finally, she hit a homerun. This was her first ever home run. She was shocked that she actually was capable of hitting a home run. She didn’t stop practicing and made sure that she could master her hitting form and bring this to her games.
During her next game the team was struggling, and they really needed to get some runs. Bee kept hitting repeatedly and then suddenly, HOME RUN! They won that game, Bee and her team felt grateful that she kept trying.
