Inspiration: Health is Wealth
It was like any other summer day, sun shining, birds chirping, Grandpa out in the garden, and Grandma in the kitchen making her famous snickerdoodle cookies. As she would finish a new batch of cookies she would sample one or two just to make sure each batch was as good as the last.
As she was sampling the last batch of cookies she felt a sharp pain in her heart as if her body was rejecting the cookies. Then the next day as she was sampling more cookies the same thing happened again to the point where she had to sit down.
Eventually, it got so bad that she could only stand for short periods of time and was no longer able to do the thing she loved; bake her snickerdoodle cookies. Grandpa saw this happen and decided to call the local doctors to see if there was anything they could do. They all gave the old man the same answer, “no,” as there was no medicine that could help with her condition. At this point, Grandma was in so much pain and discomfort that she decided to offer a reward of one thousand dollars to whoever could make her healthy again.
The next day a stranger named Bee sent word to Grandma that her boss, who was a doctor, would be able to help regain her strength. She was so delighted to hear someone could help and requested that the doctor come to her house right away because she couldn’t move. Bee denied the invitation and said that if the grandma wanted to be cured by the doctor she would need to go to his office.
Grudgingly Grandma wobbled her way over to the doctor’s office for her treatment. Bee then complimented Grandma for making it all the way to the doctor’s office and explained to her that the doctor would treat her tomorrow as long as the grandma traveled by foot to the office. If she didn’t then the doctor would not treat her and the grandma would continue to be uncomfortable and in pain. Grandma agreed as she left the office for the walk home.
Grandma, unable to walk and aided by her husband, made it to the office the next day. They knocked on the door and when someone finally answered, it wasn’t the doctor. It was Bee who told Grandma to come back tomorrow for her treatment because the doctor wasn’t there. Annoyed, Grandma agreed and came back the next day but when she did she wasn’t greeted by the doctor but by Bee again. She told Grandma to come back again tomorrow for her treatment because the doctor was sick.
This went on for a few weeks and not once did the grandma ever see the doctor for her treatment.
Gradually as the days went on Grandma was seeing herself get better and started to walk on her own. She realized what Bee was doing and why she asked her to walk every day for her treatment.
Grandma told Bee the great news over the phone and stated how smart the doctor was in getting her to walk continuously every day. Grandma didn’t even realize that the point of all the walking was just to get her to exercise.
Grandma wanted to give Bee and the doctor the one thousand dollar reward but Bee refused as it was just a kind gesture.
Very soon the Grandma was healthy again and got back to making her famous snickerdoodle cookies for all the kids in the family.
